YOU'VE BEEN HACKED
AOL/Time Warner announced that its Instant Message software has
a security hole. AOL is warning its users that the hole can
allow hackers to take complete control of their systems. AOL is
promising a fix for the security breach.

SUPER-COMPUTERS FOR RUSSIA AND CHINA
The Bush administration has agreed to allow Intel and Motorola
to export high-speed computer systems and chips to Russia,
China, India and Pakistan. No word on whether required end user
checks will be made to ensure that military weapons designers
will not acquire the super-high speed chips. The Clinton
administration previously allowed high-speed computers to be
exported to military end users inside Russia and China,
resulting in a new arms race of advanced nuclear weapons.

XP CELL PHONE FEATURE
A curious feature of Microsoft Windows XP automatically
recognizes cell phones equipped with infrared light links. The
feature could allow hackers unauthorized and unlimited access a
cell phone with no apparent physical connection. The feature
installs the cell phone as another dial-up line out. Security
experts don't think this is a major threat since the infrared
link is limited in range to a few feet. Hackers, however, are
scrambling to take advantage of the feature by using laser
enhanced infrared links that allow connections at distances up
to several hundred yards away.

CLASSIFIED GAMBLING
A Federal Judge has agreed to allow the FBI to withhold
information on national security grounds during a trial about
illegal gambling. U.S. Judge Nicholas Politan agreed to
withhold information about classified FBI surveillance systems
from the defense during the trial of Nicodemo Scarfo, a New
Jersey man accused of illegal gambling and book making. The FBI
reportedly used a highly sensitive and classified system to
obtain the PGP encryption pass phrase from Scarfo's computer.
Scarfo's attorney is appealing the ruling.
