-Caveat Lector- We had a strange one in my neck of the woods over New Year's...
A guy who was described as being a very experienced pilot (and indeed taught flying -- I wonder if he ever taught in Tampa) ostensibly 'crashed' on approach to Sikorsky Airport in Stratford, Connecticut, which is right on the shoreline of Long Island Sound... A big search was mounted for what was described in the media as 'a plane crash'... The thing is, there was absolutely no wreckage to be found; no oil slick on the waters off of Stratford's shores; the guy never signaled that he was in trouble, indeed the last radio reports he made indicated that everything was fine...but he then just seemed to 'disappear' off of the control tower's equipment as he approached the airport... No one heard a crash, or saw anything unusual in the sky or in/on the water; it was a clear night with visibility of several miles... They still haven't found a thing...
