http://timesofindia.com/articleshow.asp?art_id=1172630859 REUTERS [ WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 09, 2002 4:34:38 PM ] NEW DELHI: Defence Minister George Fernandes on Wednesday hit out at Washington's attitude to the current military standoff on the India-Pakistan border. "When (the) global coalition against terrorism was formed, it was our expectation that... it will continue as a struggle, but we see that when their (Washington's) purpose was served, the expectation that we had was not met," he told a private television news channel. His comments come just days before he is due to fly to Washington to press India's case with top officials. Fearing war, the United States has urged India not to use military action against Pakistani-based militants blamed for the December 13 attack on the Parliament and has lobbied hard for peace talks between Pakistan and India. The United States is also considering sending an envoy to the subcontinent to help defuse tensions, a move India has publicly rejected.
