--- Begin Message --- Russbacher probably can spin a yarn or two.  All these guys can.  Mike's
50/60% accuracy dounds about right to me.

I also spoke with Russbacher a couple of times when he was living over here
in
the UK, several years ago.  He basically declined to provide information
even in background or on a confidential basis.  In that sense he was
straight up.  Others I have spoken with can and do BS all day long.

But it's not correct to say that Russbacher doesn't have supporting
documentation - it's just that he was a player even after he outed himself.
I have a package of his documents (except I didn't exactly get them from him
direct) concerning a covert op that also involving Bo Gritz (in the role of
Security Officer/Chief) circa 1994 - yep, not "84" but "94."  It was an
"extraction" of one "target" from an African country (maybe extraction meant
kidnap, I don't know for certain but that's what it sounded like to me) and
was being set up with a lot of
firepower purchased from Bell Helicopters/Textron, Schiphol, (Netherlands),
to an entity (which I won't name just yet) with a care of address of
Southern Air Transport, London.  The weapons shopping list included a 2x2
.30mmVulcan Cannon, two six packs of Stinger Missiles and other odds and
ends - mostly small arms like Sigs.  The bigger items included a C141, C130
and 731 Jetstar.  There was obviously a UK end to this operations, too.
Russbacher's hand-written "Op's Plan" names names... which I don't intend to
publish anytime soon.  This was notionally a private deal but obviously
government sanctioned.

It is quite clear from these documents that Russbacher was a significant
player.  He may have talked the talk when it suited his ends -- but it seems
to me that all these guys do that as a matter of inherent disposition.

Like Mike, I also believe that Al Martin is/was a player who is now looking
for his pension.  We may not like what these guys do for a living, but it
doesn't hurt to try to see it from their side either.  The time comes when
they have to retire and they know no one will take care of them or gives a
damn about them either.  So, they start making their own "arrangements".  In
their position most of us would do the same, I suspect.

Regards

David
