It is credibility suicide to think of Gunderson as a reliable source. When the RCMP National Security guys visited me in 2000 they had all the materials on Gunderson as well. When I see that kind of documentation on De Camp I'll change my view about him. Nothing substitutes for good research as opposed to speculation, innuendo and guilt by association. How many times has a neophyte, not knowing it, walked right into the arms of bad guys thinking they were friends and found themselves compromised or embarrassed as a result? Many, many times. This is possible with De Camp. It has not been ruled out. What do you do when you find yourself suddenly financially entangled with people who are less than honorable and your next rent check is on the line? These are hard decisions to make, especially if one has children or a family to feed. Having never had kids I was able to always walk away from any such conflict, no matter how much it cost me. But I have absolutely no idea what I would have done had it come down to a choice between feeding a child and preserving the integrity of my case. There's a reason why there are standards for investigation. They reduce the risk of condemning innocent people unjustly. They also help us to not throw out information that may be useful. De Camp did make direct statements about S&L's, CIA and drugs and many other things. How many people here have ever sat down to write a book and done it? I have three times. All three books were killed by "special interest" and I went homeless and/or filed bankruptcy. How many have been through that? It takes months out of your life while you aren't making any other money. Do we blame De Camp for not writing 1,000 pages and solving all of the world's problems for us when that might have bankrupted him? And how about the fact that, from my own personal experience, every time you add a new fact that exposes another angle of corruption you systematically cut yourself off from four or five potential publishers who won't touch your work? At what point do you say, "I have to finish this book and get it out because I don't have the resources to continue writing any more?" Ask Daniel Hopsicker about that. These are living decisions, not easy ones, which people who commit their lives to change have to make. Again, I'm not saying that I know that De Camp is 100%. What I'm saying is that judging him is different from producing "evidence" of his bad motives.
