"Bridge On the River Kwai" had Alec Guiness as the Lt Colonel. It
was a Japanese train that went down.

Eventually, there comes a time when many pieces fit together and
things that you may see or learn don't seem so surprising anymore.
There was another movie in the early 90ies that had, as part of its
theme, a group of people who moved from one historical era to another
as observors of calamities. They were like tourists, spectators, or
again, observers to greater moments in history, moments they could
only see but not affect, or effect changes thereto. I can't remember
the name of it though.

It may be more comforting to be able to properly assess the events of
the day through more knowledgeable eyes than staring in disbelief at
the television screen when aerospace mass transit vehicles plow into
tall structures. A Reichstag is a Reichstag is a Reichstag. No
matter who was at fault or how it happened, it still becomes
important to understand what comes after.
