The following appeal has been delivered to our Commander-in-Chief for emergency protection of the Panama Canal – still the "world’s most strategic waterway," still undefended, unpatrolled and wide open. The Panama Canal remains an easy and available target for terrorists who keep threatening, "More is coming!"

A devastating blow to strategic plans and to our economy could result from a drained Canal that could take at least two years to refill. The Canal is vulnerable and military planners know it.

Gatun Locks, pictured above, presents a breathtaking view of what the Canal is all about: raising ships 85 feet into Gatun Lake or lowering them 85 feet into the Caribbean Sea, with two parallel sets of chambers, each 1,000 by 110 feet.

Here is the appeal to President Bush, sent by Admiral Thomas H. Moorer, U.S. Navy (Ret.) and his associates – all with in-depth knowledge of the Canal:
