the question never asked by the people who keep asking " why didn't we kill
saddam?" is:
who will fill the power vacuum?
look at Haiti - ( around the same time period as the gulf war) for better or
worse, there was a democratically elected govt. to install waiting in the
wings.
We supported saddam for years, because he was the secular leader in the
area.
So what are the choices if he is killed.. either another crazy general, or a
crazy mullah.....
