Identity Leftism Makes a Mistake James Versluys "It puts people in our shoes, and then we can say, ‘Now you know how it is, and now you can make a judgment.’" Ryan White, 'Mohawk.' The Indian activists at the Greely High School, whose somber pronunciamentos of the Correctness of our new Fighting Whiteys basketball team, must be sorry as Hell they made the choice of naming the team like they did. Every last white person I know loved the idea and wants a Fighting Whitey T-shirt. I myself want all the various paraphernalia associated with the Fighting Whiteys. The stated purpose of making white people more sensitive to the "racial prejudice" in names such as the "Fighting Mohawks" through the process of making whites "endure" the same thing must be the biggest and most complete failure ever wrought by the puking, mewling identity politico's. I wonder if they really know what a failure it is. Probably not. Identity politics people are generally completely unaware of any subtleties, almost intentionally so. Some redneck racist friends of mine can't wait to get their hands on the merchandise. These rednecks are fully aware of the original intent behind these t-shirts. That makes it even better, to them. It does to me, too. It amuses me that we've entered an age where even the lowest of the racists have more intelligent and generally witty attitudes toward the absurdity of our times than the anti-racists. I would even say the two groups have switched positions, as a matter of general approach. To call the so-called Politically Correct slow and literal minded would be to insult the normal idiot. The leftist notions of race have so completely won the horridly named culture wars that activists no longer have to hide their real intentions any longer. They have abandoned their previous position of advocating equality, which was used to excuse whatever filthy lucre or ridiculously unwarranted position that was given to their minority of the moment. They're more blunt about their intentions now because they can be. Charles Cuny, a standard identity politics type, made a particularly illuminating and apt statement to the Greely Tribune: "We live in a politically correct society, and sometimes Indians get overlooked….There are so few Indians who have clout that there are a lot of things that go unsettled." Statements like this are not uncommon now. It's everywhere, and out in the open for everyone to see. One night, while waiting for a pizza, a woman made me watch Politically Incorrect, a fantastically ironic name for a show. One of the guests, whose name I have forgotten from sheer willpower, was assessing the stupid dad fad that has dominated regular television over the last 20 years. Male heads of households, but only the white ones, are always the fool of the show, always dumb, and mostly henpecked by valiant wives. This has been the truth as long as I have been watching television, so it has been the de facto fad for at least the last quarter of the 20th century. The woman on the show responded to Bill Maher, the host of the show, by vigorously agreeing with the fad, calling it good recompense for male oppression. It wasn't called revenge, but that was just a formality. This too wasn't unusual, or even all that mentionable, as these ideas have taken over mainstream thought with such totality that it doesn't even raise an eyebrow. And of course, far darker nastiness lies behind this sanctioned prejudice in the guise of anti-racism, but even the Right doesn't venture there. The numerous occurrences of black-on-white rape is never mentioned or discussed in the press, nor is the general violence routinely used by blacks against whites. What is euphemistically called "disparity in sentencing" is spoken of endlessly in regards to sentencing for crack and powdered cocaine, but these same "disparities" in sentencing men and women for killing children are not even a topic of discussion. Chris Hitchens wrote, "From a way of being radical, [identity politics] quickly became a way of being reactionary", and he warned dissidents not to have anything to do with it. One can forgive Hitchens for not getting this right. Identity politics is not reactionary right-wing, it is a leftist political philosophy, and our current situation was a consequence that should have been easy to see from the beginning of the civil rights movement’s success. Failed leftism is not rightism, no matter how much leftists want it to be such. The good news for those who dissent is the ease to which identity leftism is exposed as fraudulent. To his credit, Hitchens understands it must be opposed through vigorous ridicule. "It has been ridiculed, but never enough", he states in his rather good 'Letters To a Young Contrarian'. Mister Hitchens is at least right about that one.
