Moulin Rouge was an awful film - but why ?? remember it was a 12 and the cinema was full of youth picking up their cardboard values of 'beauty dies caged in sexual jungle' the young were watching - not realising how empty and ultimately desolate the film was - having not much to compare the dumbed down offering with in their limited experience - but this film wasn't for adults - it was for the youth. glamourising licentuousness and the cult of consumption - the consumption of youth that is. For me Moulin Rouge - and red is the colour of satanic activity was as desolate as the whore of babylon - a hopeless film that encourages the young mind to indulge and consume - and just like black hawk downs two patriotic oscars - the powers that be used the oscare ceremony to make a statement about americas future. I'm sure denzel washington would admit that his training day performance wasn't as erudite as crowes in a beautiful mind, but that the major black oscars were a signal to americas racial minorities to hang in there.
