Subject: [Patriot_Net] Stop Daschle's Amnesty Plan! CITIZENS UPDATE from CitizensLobby.com An e-newsletter from http://www.CitizensLobby.com Scott A. Lauf, Executive Director Washington, DC USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ HEADLINES May 10, 2002 ---> Stop Daschles Amnesty Plan ---> House Legislative Update ---> Senate Legislative Update ---> Pres. Bush Dumps ICC ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ STOP DASCHLEs AMNESTY PLAN As we cited in our last update, amnesty schemes are still plaguing Congress. Sen. Tom Daschle (D-SD) announced yesterday his legislation to grant 245(i) amnesty to illegal aliens, which is co-sponsored by Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-MA), chairman of the subcommittee on immigration for the Senate Judiciary Committee. [This legislation does not yet have a title or bill #, but according to a Kennedy staffer this bill is a top priority for Daschle and the Dems, and floor debate and a vote may come next week]. Sen. Daschle has been crowing that Democrats are for family reunification and that criminal illegal aliens are law-abiding citizens. (Associated Press, 5/9/02). Of course, nothing could be further from the truth. If Daschle and the Dems sincerely favor family reunification, then they would support deportation of all illegal aliens so these non-citizens can reunite with their families in Mexico, or their country origin, where most of their family members reside! National polls consistently show that Americans overwhelmingly want illegal immigrants deported, including our survey, which revealed 87% in favor of this action. But the real motive of Daschle and the Dems is gobbling up more Hispanic votes for the 2002 and 2004 elections. Sadly, many in the GOP are either asleep on this critical issue, or actually believe they too can pander for votes. (President Bushs Cinco de Mayo support last weekend for 245(i) only worsens the situation on Capitol Hill and harms the Republicans electoral prospects). *** Please contact your Senators and tell them to oppose all forms of amnesty! For Senate contact info, click here http://www.citizenslobby.com/congress.htm *** Please contact Sen. Daschle to express your opposition to his plan. Phone: #202-224-2321 Fax: #202-224-7895 E-mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] On the House side on Tuesday, May 14th , Rep. Jose Serrano (D-NY), a pro-illegal alien liberal and a native of Puerto Rico, will offer a 245(i) amnesty amendment to the FY 02 Emergency Supplemental Appropriations bill during continued mark-up hearings of the full House Appropriations Committee. *** Please Call and Fax both offices of Committee Chairman Bill Young (R-FL) and tell him you oppose 245(i) amnesty. Phone: #202-225-2771, #202-225-5961 Fax: #202-225-2112, #202-225-9764 *** To contact the Committee Members, click here http://www.house.gov/appropriations/members.htm This amendment needs to be killed in committee! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ HOUSE LEGISLATIVE UPDATE The House has overwhelmingly approved the final version of the Enhanced Border Security and Visa Entry Reform Act (H.R. 3525) by a vote of 411-0 after an agreement was struck last week between House and Senate negotiators. President Bush is expected to sign it into law. The most worthy provisions of the bill include barring foreign nationals of terrorist countries from entering the U.S., establishing a tracking system for foreign students, and tightening up the visa issuance process. CitizensLobby.com wants to thank all those citizens who contacted their members of Congress and signed our petitions. Your input helped in the final passage of this bill. In a marathon session late last night, the House took up H.R. 4546, the FY 03 Defense appropriations bill. Two significant amendments were passed. One by Rep. Virgil Goode (I-VA) authorizes the use of military troops to assist the INS and Customs Service, which is a good first step towards placing permanent troops on our borders. A second amendment by Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) prohibits the use of any of these funds for the International Criminal Court (ICC). In the House Judiciary Committee, H.R. 1452 is still on the agenda for mark-up. This ludicrous bill would allow illegal aliens convicted of aggravated felonies to remain free in the U.S. when released from prison. Please tell Chairman Sensenbrenner (R-WI) you oppose this legislation. Call #202-225-3951 and #202-225-7682 (Fax). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SENATE LEGISLATIVE UPDATE Due to Sen. Daschles ongoing obstructionism, there is a Senate delay in action over the House-approved Immigration Reform & Accountability Act (H.R. 3231), which would abolish the INS and create new bureaus of enforcement and administration. The Senate Judiciary Committee has addressed S. 2444, which is a weaker and less specific bill than the House bill. There is no indication when either version will make it to the Senate floor. Obviously, enacting amnesty for illegal aliens and opening the doors for more potential terrorists and criminals are higher priorities for Sen. Daschle. The full Senate has recently been debating the Andean Trade Pact (H.R. 3009), which includes Trade Promotion Authority (TPA). The Senate may hold a final roll call on this bill on Monday, May 13th. The U.S. Constitution clearly states in Article I (Section 8, Clause 3) that Congress shall have power to regulate commerce with foreign nations. However, TPA violates the constitution by stripping Congress of its own power to amend trade treaties. This dangerous trade bill would also surrender American sovereignty to foreign bureaucracies during trade disputes, and would likely lead to the same ill effects of NAFTA during the 1990s, in which over 1 million American manufacturing jobs were lost to cheap foreign laborers and untold millions of illegal immigrants entered the U.S. Please contact your Senators at http://www.citizenslobby.com/congress.htm and tell them to vote NO on H.R. 3009. Well keep you posted on these and all other legislative developments . Keep in touch with us at the home page at http://www.citizenslobby.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ PRES. BUSH DUMPS ICC The Bush Administration has taken an important step in safeguarding American citizenry and sovereignty by formally disengaging the United States from participation in the International Criminal Court (ICC) treaty. This small victory is due in large part to Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld who persuaded President Bush to take this action. With the growing threat of anti-American global institutions, the issue of sovereignty is becoming ever more critical. This trend is clearly evident from our first survey results, which revealed a whopping 85% majority favoring the U.S. to withdraw from the United Nations. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CITIZENS SURVEY RESULTS CitizensLobby.com has compiled the first results from our on-line survey and the American people have spoken loudly in support of America First policies on immigration, foreign policy and trade. These results have been sent to the White House, top congressional leaders, all members of the House and Senate, and over 2,500 media outlets in print, radio and TV.
