PETITION TO DEMAND A NATIONAL SUSPENSION OF AIRLINE SERVICE UNTIL AIRLINE
PILOTS ARE ARMED
To: The unions representing the airlines operating
and certificated under the rules of the Federal Aviation Administration. These
unions include, but are not limited to: The Airline Pilots Association (ALPA),
Allied Pilots Association (APA) and the Southwest Airlines Pilots Association
(SWAPA)
We, the undersigned citizens of the United States of America
and users of the national airspace system, being aware that the Bush
Administration, Congress and the airlines have not created an effective
program to select, train and arm airline pilots as a last line of defense
against hijackings and terror acts on commercial aircraft, proclaim:
That United States interests, specifically US air carriers, are under
continued threat from acts of terror.
The Bush Administration and the
airlines are unable to prevent armed criminal access to commercial aircraft.
American citizens, flight crews and innocents on the ground continue
to be exposed to the hazards of ineffective security and government policies
that prevent qualified pilots from having the weapons to combat a hostile
takeover of the flight deck.
The pilot unions have the authority and
responsibility to the flying public to call for a national suspension of
service until an unsafe situation is corrected.
DEMAND that the pilot
unions initiate protest action including suspension of air service until an
effective program to select, train and arm qualified airline pilots, is
approved.
