-Caveat Lector- This chart illustrates the wisdom of investing for the long term in the stock market. Yes, there was some irrational exuberance after 1995, but you can see that the market has corrected for this nicely, thank you, and a bit more as it tends to do especially under a(nother) Republican Bush administration.
The Volitility Index (VIX) is a measure of investor pessimism. Technically it is the put-to-call options ratio. When it goes very high it signals an intermediate term stock market bottom. There are many good stocks to choose from. My favorites are Peets Coffees (PEET) and Lexar Media (LEXR). You can research the for yourself on Yahoo under Finances. Both have recently released very positive earnings reports. This is not an advertisement, but I do hold positions in one or more of the above stocks. I took a lot of flack for my suggestion that the market was nearing a bottom a few weeks ago. Time will tell if the bottom was reached.
