DECLARATION & DISCLAIMER
==========
CTRL is a discussion & informational exchange list. Proselytizing propagandic
screeds are unwelcomed. Substance—not soap-boxing—please! These are
sordid matters and 'conspiracy theory'—with its many half-truths, mis-
directions and outright frauds—is used politically by different groups with
major and minor effects spread throughout the spectrum of time and thought.
That being said, CTRLgives no endorsement to the validity of posts, and
always suggests to readers; be wary of what you read. CTRL gives no
credence to Holocaust denial and nazi's need not apply.

Let us please be civil and as always, Caveat Lector.

$130,000 MATCHING GRANT TO STOP THE IMPENDING WAR WITH IRAQ!

The Iraq Peace Fund (IPF) has been established by the Tides Foundation to make strategic grants over the next three months focused on preventing war in Iraq by elevating the voice of peace and justice in this nation.

Right now, thanks to three anonymous donors, your donation to the Iraq Peace Fund via GiveForChange will be matched, doubling the impact of your donation at a time when it is needed most. This matching grant will run until December 31, 2002 or until $130,000 is reached, whichever comes first. The need is especially great at this time, so please give generously if possible, and please pass this along to your friends and other like-minded contacts so funds can be generated as quickly as possible. Thank you for your support.

$100,000 MATCHING GRANT FOR THE RUCKUS SOCIETY
$2 MATCHED FOR EVERY $1 DONATED

Since the tragic events of September 11, George Bush and his ultra-conservative cronies have gutted social spending and simultaneously increased military, defense and security spending. Moreover, they are systematically dismantling our civil liberties and targeting the people and organizations fighting to defend our right to free speech.

As communities of resistance fight to find their voices and struggle for change, they are in need of the training, skills and support to peacefully confront the right-wing opposition in the most strategic and effective manner possible. The Ruckus Society believes that strategic nonviolent direct action has a long and proud history of creating social change.

Right now, you can triple your donation (and triple your impact) by giving! Every dollar will be DOUBLED by Ben & Jerry’s® Foundation (that is for every $1 given, they will donate another $2 up to $100,000). The Ruckus Society will invest your resources in the grassroots activists on the frontlines of the nonviolent struggle for a truly just and sustainable future on this plane.

$50,000 MATCHING GRANT FOR INTERNATIONAL RIVERS NETWORK:
SUPPORT THE WORLDWIDE CAMPAIGN FOR LIVING RIVERS AND HUMAN RIGHTS!

Large dams have displaced 40 to 80 million people worldwide. China’s Three Gorges Dam project alone could cause nearly 2 million people to lose their homes and livelihoods. From these dams flow devastating impacts on people’s lives: human rights abuses, economic hardship, physical and psychological problems, community disintegration and cultural destruction.

International Rivers Network (IRN) supports the rights of people affected by large dams to have their voices heard without fear of retribution and to receive fair compensation for their losses.

Right now, thanks to an anonymous donor, all donations to IRN will be matched. Plus you’ll receive all IRN Member Benefits for one year. This match promotion ends October 31, 2002 or once $50,000 in donations has been reached, whichever comes first. Your donation will help IRN step up our efforts worldwide, whether it is on the Nile River in Uganda, the Xingu in Brazil, the Mekong in Southeast Asia or the Narmada in India. Thanks for your generous support.

$4,000 MATCHING GRANT FOR NATURAL RESOURCE DEFENSE COUNCIL

The purpose of Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is to safeguard the earth: its people, its plants and animals and the natural systems on which all life depends. NRDC works to restore the integrity of the elements that sustain life — air, land and water — and to defend endangered natural places.

Right now, thanks to Excellent Window and Carpet Cleaning Inc. and Olivier Suzor, all donations to the Natural Resource Defense Council will be matched! This match ends December 31, 2002 or once $4,000 has been reached, whichever comes first. Thank you for your support.

HELP DISTRIBUTE THE DONATIONS

Attention GiveForChange members! If you’ve made an online donation on GiveForChange.com in 2002, you are eligible to vote in the Working Assets 2002 Donations Ballot. If you use other Working Assets services (long distance, credit card, wireless or ShopForChange) your vote will be weighted accordingly.

The ballot consists of 50 nonprofit groups specifically selected to receive funding from Working Assets general donations pool. Don’t see your favorite group this year? To learn how you can participate in the nominations process for 2003, click here.

Once we’ve counted all the votes, we’ll distribute the funds. Look for final voting results in the spring. Thanks for participating!
