-Caveat Lector- Seems if I read this correctly socialism in this case didn¹t work, because people are selfish and greedy. If people were willing to share and help - if the young men did not object to sharing their food with the infirm, and kept working, the famine would have ended. If people actually only took what they needed, and not as much as they could, the starvation may not have happened at all -
