Handicapped man shot dead by IDF By Arnon Regular A 28-year-old Palestinian, whom Palestinian sources said was mentally handicapped, was shot dead yesterday evening by Israel Defense Forces troops near Einav, a northern West Bank settlement, when the man did not stop after soldiers called for him to halt and fired in the air as a warning. Later last night, a 25-year-old woman was shot dead by troops and her husband and her mother were wounded as they drove along a dark road near Nablus in defiance of a dusk-to-dawn military curfew, Palestinian security sources said. The army had no comment. Meanwhile, Palestinian Planning Minister Nabil Shaath said attacks on all Israeli civilians must stop, including on Jewish settlers in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. "Stopping the targeting of Israeli civilians is a step that needs to be implemented," Shaath said. An IDF inquiry into the death of a Palestinian woman and injuries to her three sons on Sunday, found the woman may have been hit by machine-gun fire from a tank that was shooting at what it believed to be infiltrators trying to reach the settlement of Rafiah Yam. The inquiry report says some bullets fired at the suspected infiltrators may have continued into Rafah, hitting the woman and her children. There were heavy gun battles yesterday between Palestinians and the IDF in the Rafah area yesterday. A unit hunting tunnels on the Israel-Egypt border came under fire several times from light arms and an anti-tank rocket. The rocket missed the tank and landed in Egyptian territory. The soldiers came across a large, 70-kilogram bomb, which they blew up. They also uncovered a 12-meter deep tunnel and blew it up.
