FWIW, I happen to agree, tho I don't really care what is the default behavior.

PS: One thing I wonder is how to size the new window before it's mapped.
I seem to remember that you could do "some button press, then move the
mouse to resize then button release" to place and resize the new
window, but it doesn't seem to work with my config.  Then again it's
probably a problem in my config: I haven't bothered to investigate very much.
