Unfortunately, I don’t remember all that much as far as healing
stories in my childhood.
What I do remember was that perhaps I considered myself a healer!?
Being the eldest of nine I was frequently left to care for my siblings
when my parents were gone. For some reason, I thought tying a string
to my brother’s loose tooth, attaching it to a doorknob and slamming
the door was an efficient method of taking out a tooth. I can’t
recall if it worked. (I'm sure he does.) A cow stepped on another
brother’s forefinger and I wrapped it up with a couple popsicle
sticks. He will occasionally show me his bent finger. These are
perhaps not the kind of ‘healing’ stories needed for this question!

Last year I translated my great-uncle’s autobiography, of sorts, from
French for an independent study in French. Brother Raymond was my
grandmother’s brother, the youngest of a bunch of nine or ten and was
a religious Brother in Montreal. He related family stories including
that of being taken ill with the Spanish Influenza in 1918 when he was
a year old. His mother made him a little mattress of goose down
because he was so thin his bones were sticking out. He survived, but
was very frail for many years; apparently that didn’t hold him back
because he wanted to keep up with his older brothers and told of some
of the escapades in which they were involved on their farm. Despite
several medical problems, he persevered and lived a full life,
teaching, traveling, researching and playing the violin. I would
consider this an inspiring family story.

My Dad was in the front lines in WWII, and he was discharged at the
end of the war after some serious episodes with malaria. It wasn't
until toward the end of his life as I drove him to the VA for his
medical appointments that he told me a few stories from the War, like
seeing his buddies all around him being gunned down and feeling there
was a shield around him. He suffered from depression all his life,
and was in AA for 40 years. I also learned that he was severely
abused by his father, and lived his life trying to overcome this; he
was determined to be a better father to his children. This could also
be considered a healing story.
