This will seriously decrease your abilities to figure out what libcurl does. Perhaps you should consider enabling it while tracking down this issue of yours?

No. And if proxy support is disabled and you try to use it, it should cause an error to be returned!
When I use curl with a libcurl built with this configuration, the HTTP call goes through without attempting to connect to the proxy.
