If single quotes are always a viable alternative to double quotes (or worse
only sometimes so - perhaps due to platform/shell idiosyncracies) shouldn't
there be some sort of quoting overview at the top of the page?
Argument quoting is a shell thing. If single or double quotes work and how
they differ is decided by the shell and it differs slightly between different
implementations. I don't think it is our job to document that in the curl man
page.
