I've tried yesterdays amd64 -current (201903251120Z) on my W500. When I run startx I get weird gfx behaviour and a GPU HANG and reset.
The last -current I tried was from the end of January 2018 and X worked. The xorg.conf is the one produced by X --configure. There's no .xinitrc or similar configured. Just running /usr/X11R7/bin/X initialises the display with the grey background and I see no additional output in dmesg. But the cursor doesn't move when I move the trackpoint. Running startx initialises the black background quickly. Then I see some white lines along the left of the upper edge and the upper half of the left edge of the display. I also see the GPU reset and following output in dmesg. After a while (several seconds) the white border rectangle of the first xterm window is rendered along with a white rectangle in the upper left corner the size of the xterm cursor. The X pointer has changed to the one used by xterm but sits in the middle of the screen and doesn't move when I move the trackpoint. I see twm, xclock, and 3 xterms in the process list. The system is completely idle. After switching to ttyE0 and back, the first xterm (the tall one on the left) is rendered albeit with a solid black titlebar. the lower xterm window is xterm window is rendered too. the pointer is still unresponsive and typing on the keyboard doesn't show in the xterm window. After the next VT switch the xclock window is rendered and the X pointer becomes responsive. On the next VT switch nothing new is rendered but the pointer becomes unresponsive. Another VT switch doesn't change the situation. After anothe VT switch the third xterm window is rendered. The first and the third xterm window show the previous keuboard input. Also the title bars have the text title, the solid circle at the left (but not the square around it) and the inner part of the green resize button without the bounding square. The pointer is still unresponsive. After typing this in the title bars of the first and third xterm have become the usual green. After a couple of more VT switches all the xterm windows are rendered. But I get twm-green columns running down the left and right of the screen. I didn't see that yesterday. The X pointer is still unresponsive. I did get the following in dmesg: warning: ../../../../external/bsd/drm2/dist/drm/drm_irq.c:1510: vblank wait timed out on crtc 1 After several more VT switches I all the windows are rendered. Pointer and keyboard are responsive. I can start and kill glxgears. It runs at pretty much 60 FPS. Exiting from the large xterm kills the X server as expected. All the time the console frame buffer worked as expected. --chris dmesg from startx: (Note the repeated "[ 32.1116383] acpibat0: no" after the "kern error".) I have truncated the repeating numbers after the first 20. Initially I got some 1900 of them. There are lost more printed after some but not all of the VT switches.
