Yea! I'd made the mistaken assumption that the amd64 GENERIC kernel
was as complete as the i386 in doing regression testing. Bad
assumption it turns out. I don't know if this means more of the
drivers should be added to AMD64 generic, or not. I kinda think it
does..

The key is to build the modules, not just the kernel. I trip over this
once in a while when I forget that I have NO_MODULES set in
/etc/make.conf.
