Log message:
A slew of minor changes and cleanups to avoid compiler warnings.
Mainly adding prototypes, doing gnome casts, removing dead code.
For me (with non-hal config, pl 0.12.0 api) this now compiles with
GNOME_COMPILER_WARNINGS(error)
