Explicitely initialize a value to NULL.
(gnome_volume_applet_orientation):
In our hack to make events be forwarded from dock to applet, do
not do any weird stuff, but just use the _set_parent() and
_unparent() functions in Gtk+. This prevents a critical warning
on startup (#323576).
