Indeed not.  In fact none of the back-end changes (graph-colouring register 
allocator etc) that Ben is doing should go in either.  In both cases the new 
code is not enabled, but there's no point in having in the branch.

The only reason to have it in the branch would be to make easier any bug-fixes 
in the back end of the branch -- but I hope we won't have any of those!

It would be nice to make Ben's register allocator available for testing on the 6.8.x series, as it will give better results in some case (albeit only a few at the moment). Since most of the code is already in the branch, I don't think it's a problem to keep pushing patches in.
