   - remove $(ghc_ge_601), $(ghc_ge_602), $(ghc_ge_603)

   - there are probably various cleanups that we can now do in compat/
and compiler/, but I haven't done those yet.

Yay! Does that mean we could do the same in Cabal HEAD? :-)
That is of course, assuming we do not intend to ship a Cabal-1.4 with
GHC 6.8.3 which is not out of the realms of possibility depending on how
compatible it is in practise.

It'd mean we could remove a lot from Cabal's compat/ and also drop
support for generating the old ghc-6.2 style of package registration
files.

Your call, but it seems reasonable to me. We could continue to ship Cabal 1.2 with 6.8.3, but 1.4 would be supported as an upgrade, of course.

It would indeed let us drop lots of cruft, which is always good.

Cheers,
        Simon
