EMERGENCY EARTH ALERT: Ecological Internet's Future in Doubt June 15, 2008 Dear colleagues, Ecological Internet fund-raising efforts have run smack into the wall of a bad economy and Presidential campaign donor fatigue. Despite this, we are 70% to our minimum goal to remain fully operational. However, we have already over the past week been forced to scale back operations, and are considering all future options. Should we fall $20,000 short of our goal (as it now stands) we will be forced to let go of staff; scale back our action, tool and analysis offerings; and close down after all funds raised are expended. THIS IS REAL AND IMMIMENT, WE AND THE EARTH NEED YOU NOW! There are several pending expenditures -- including hard drives and software upgrades -- that in the past I would have put on my personal credit card. I can no longer do so, and without these expenditures and funds to pay our three person part time staff, we will have to shut down. This is sad as TOGETHER we have just had a whole slew of monumental successes, built reasonable staffing, and had exciting new plans to increase the amount of original news, alerts and blogging we have been providing. Given outstanding grant applications, this may all still be posible, but we simply need to make more from this current drive. Even 5-10K more will make all the difference. If/when we can get a bit closer to the goal, we expect to return immediately to full-scale operation.
