2008 EI FUND-RAISER UPDATE: We are 1/3 of the way to our goal, with 88 people having donated $25,000. Donations continue to be doubled by a matching grant. We are on track to raise the funds by the end of the year required to continue apace. ****************************
What Is Ecological Internet? Please support "Earth Advocacy that Matters" at: http://www.climateark.org/shared/donate/ November 24, 2008 By Dr. Glen Barry, President, Ecological Internet Given our effectiveness, perhaps it is not surprising that Ecological Internet's web servers were severely hacked last week. EI is committed to achieving just and equitable global environmental sustainability, and the required "ecologically sufficient" policy agenda. Ending ancient forest logging and coal use, reducing human population and consumption, and embracing widespread ecological preservation and restoration threaten both Earth destroyers and their NGO apologists. The attack, which took us partially off-line for a couple days, is indicative of our success. If the ruling elite are threatened by our bright green message, clearly we are doing something right. Please make a tax-deductible gift to EI's brand of Earth advocacy that matters. Learn how to do so by credit card, mail or wire transfer at http://www.climateark.org/shared/donate/ . In this funding appeal I will highlight EI's vision, what has been achieved in the past year, and what our goals and needs are for the next year. EI's network (including YOU) is a thriving team enjoying great success in helping build a movement to maintain a habitable planet. But we simply need new and old new participants to continue donating to remain fully operational. The Earth is alive. Anyone with a bit of ecological learning and intuition can see that a few centuries of industrial growth have frayed her ecological systems beyond recognition, and they are failing. Continued growth in human populations, economies and ecosystem loss can only lead to global ecological collapse. Indeed, it has begun. EI understands climate change is but one, albeit important, element of global ecological unsustainability. Forests, water, oceans, soil and toxics are important too, and just as threatened. Virtually the entire environmental movement has been too willing to compromise, not understanding requirements for an operable biosphere, and that these have already been surpassed. So they push a dangerously inadequate and quaint reform agenda. "Shared Survival" refers to the fact that either we will work together cooperatively to transform ourselves and the human society or we shall all perish. We believe that people, organizations and governments must be confronted with the fact that the way they are living and treating the environment is destroying the biosphere and will kill us all. We admonish them in a logical, strong manner to change their ways. And we are committed to escalating global "people power" protests until required measures to maintain the biosphere, and thus being, are fully implemented. EI's network is truly global -- enabling Earth's citizens as a family to carry out grassroots global advocacy. And we happen to be experts at using the Internet to persuasively campaign for the Earth's biosphere and all creatures. These messages, approaches and skills set us apart. 2008 was a year of accomplishment for Earth's team, as we are emerging as a force to be reckoned with. In the past year together we achieved some notable successes in Papua New Guinea and Australia, and on exposing FSC and friends' greenwash (see http://www.ecoearth.info/shared/kudos/ ). Recently we launched a ground-breaking e-zine entitled "New Earth Rising" at http://www.newearthrising.org/ -- committed to biocentric thought and action. We have started a fledgling foundation grant application program. And most importantly, we have finished a two year complete technological redesign of our site, including pioneering new news tracking, search and alert tools. It would be a shame to lose these cutting-edge, Earth saving capabilities, which are just demonstrating what they can do, just as Earth's collapse begins and the need for robust global ecological policy has never been greater. We run a lean, mean operation and have recently dramatically cut costs. It would be very sad if fifteen years of work ended because we did not have the modest funds -- equal to one salary in a mainstream environmental bureaucracy -- to run the Internet system we have invented to gather, collate, analyze and network environmental sustainability information. It is important that biocentric activism of this sort continues. You can make it happen. A tax-deductible gift from you now will allow us to meet our goal of $75K required to cover basic computer, bandwidth and salary expenses into 2009. These are the inputs necessary to continue the daily news tracking, search engines, action opportunities, ecological analysis and more. In this coming year we intend to expand our online ecological protest capabilities and improve our sites' graphic design. Ecological Internet continually gives everything we have (and sometimes more) to the struggle for global ecological sustainability. Together with you we have built the world's best and most used environmental portals, and a global network pursuing green truth and hope. With your continued support we can maintain and continue to improve EI's ground-breaking Earth advocacy that matters, all at a very modest cost. We fully expect to be successful in our funding drive, and to continue our brand of ecologically sufficient advocacy for a habitable Earth! Please, let's get this fund-raising done, donate now at http://www.climateark.org/shared/donate/ . By doing so you are part of a team making a difference for you and your loved ones' Earth. Warmest regards, Dr. Glen Barry P.S. I recently took a long walk in an ancient forest and feel much better. It is an honor to be doing this work, and I am reconciled with doing what is necessary, including accepting advertising on EI's sites and getting a "day" job, in order that Ecological Internet and bright green thought and action thrives. This work will continue, and I shall try to be less emotional and more professional in my funding appeals.
