2009 Banner Year for Ecological Internet
Your support needed to continue courageous biocentric advocacy

December 1, 2009

Dear Earth colleagues,

Ecological Internet (EI) has had a banner year, spearheading several major
rainforest/climate victories, and providing inspired, knowledgeable leadership
to global efforts to protect old forests to stabilize climate, biodiversity and
ecosystems. There is no comparable global network promoting specific,
well-researched, ecological science based, on-the-ground conservation policy
required to achieve global ecological sustainability. Our ability to continue
doing so is dependent upon your support.

As we have for 10 years, we depend exclusively upon network participants to
raise the modest amount of funds required to run Earth's largest biocentric
eco-portals and action network. Please read more below regarding the past
year's successes, and make a donation now at
http://www.climateark.org/shared/donate/ to ensure the work continues apace. As
we are now based in rainforest countries, our needs for staffing, computers &
bandwidth has never been greater.

EI is framing the global movement for ecological sustainability in terms of
sufficient biocentric policy. No one provides ecological search, news tracking,
action & insightful commentary like EI. This is perhaps not surprising given
past innovation including pioneering the use of the Internet to maintain
ecosystems and having invented blogging. Let me review some of this year's
campaigns and accomplishments.

Ecological Internet's global network singlehandedly resisted Malaysian
government financed oil palm expansion into the heart of the Amazon. In India
we were instrumental in protecting natural core habitat and corridors of the
Indian Elephant. We continue to courageously confront those pandering to
continued FSC ancient forest logging -- noting toilet paper and paper bags from
"certified" industrial forest logging of primary forests can never be
considered ecologically sustainable.

EI continues to write freely, at some risk to ourselves, of the ecological
science indicating Earth has already crossed critical ecological tipping
points. If current trends continue -- and unless the industrial growth machine
economy is overthrown immediately -- humanity is heading for irrecoverable
ecosystem, social and economic collapse. Similarly we have shown strength in
confronting the lack of efficacy of biomass energy, geo-engineering and biochar.

We continue to pursue a range of new IT techniques to bring about the awareness
and action necessary to sustain humanity and our shared habitat. Despite a
somewhat reduced budget, EI this year also launched huge Facebook (8000) and
Twitter networks (1000). There we provide frequent and immediate micro-blogging
of ecological advocacy news, which is well received and growing exponentially.
And all our web portals were improved graphically (i.e. rounded corners).

Ecological Internet is well aware that if humanity and Earth are to be
sustained, a complete revolutionary rethink to how we live with Earth is
required. The extent to which Western lifestyles are unsustainable has never
been more evident. We will not be silenced by governments, industry OR the
large environmental bureaucracies more interested in raising money than solving
eco-problems.

What EI may lack in staff and financial resources, is more than made up for
with passion, commitment and courage. Ecological Internet is the antidote to
reformist greenwashing sweeping the environmental movement, whose inadequacy
virtually ensures global ecosystem collapse. Please, now more than ever, your
tax-deductible gift to Earth via EI is needed at
http://www.climateark.org/shared/donate/ .

For Earth,
Dr. Glen Barry
