Finally found my problem! I have Aventail Connect version 3.23 installed. This is a VPN client that inserts itself into the TCP/IP stack.
After executing the following procedure, I was successfully able to connect a cvs pserver client to my cvsservice server, all on a single Win2k machine. Use Aventail "Config Tool" Click "Advanced" tab Click "Secure all servers except those listed" Press "Modify List" button Press "Add" button, and locate cvsservice.exe Click "All occurrences of 'cvsservice.exe'" Press "Add" button, and locate cvs.exe Click "All occurrences of 'cvs.exe'" Click "OK" File/ Save Stop and restart Aventail FWIW, ZoneAlarm is installed and running, and was not a culprit here. Of course, it was necessary to add both cvsservice and cvs to the "authorized" list. P.S. to Terris: On Win2K, the 'require secure connection' setting can be found via ControlPanel/ AdministrativeTools/ LocalSecurityPolicy ... select "IP Security Policies on Local Machine" (I see no reason to change this, BTW, but thought you'd like to know).
