ok.  that makes sense but with kde i dont feel any difference.  when i
open kfm or konqueror and type either of those urls, then click on a
file to edit; it just works.  kde takes care of downloading the file and
pushing back up in sftp.

now I'm curious as to how fish works. . . ok after some research both
sftp and fish basically accomplish the same thing but have a few
differences in features.  symlinks and support for sshV1 seem to be the
only differences I can find.  fish might use perl but I cant find a home
page for it.  sftp uses sshd with sftp turned on.
