Y'all, I just thought of something open-source that the kids would enjoy
for Christmas.

My mother-in-law and two of my sisters-in law (my wife is the youngest
of four sisters) are up here this weekend, and yesterday morning after I
got showered and dressed and while they were taking turns using the
shower and getting dressed and ready to go Christmas shopping, I was
playing SuperTux (a takeoff on Super Mario Brothers featuring Tux
filling Mario/Luigi's role in the game). One of them, after she got
dressed, came into the room I was in and saw me playing it, and said
"Fred, where did you get that game? My kids would absolutely LOVE this!".

After we got back from Christmas shopping last night, while my wife and
them were watching TV, I looked around online for a Live CD that has
that game on it (they're nowhere close to being ready to leave Windows
yet), and stumbled across a special games edition of Wolvix that, among
other things, contains OVER FIFTY different open-source games, including
SuperTux, Frozen Bubble, Maelstrom, XMahjongg, LTrix, FreeCiv, and much,
MUCH more. It uses the XFCE interface and, in addition to its stash of
games, also contains several key programs of most other distributions as
well, such as Firefox, OpenOffice.org, the GIMP, and Gaim, among other
things.

For those of you who have kids and/or nephews and nieces to buy for
(while we don't have kids of our own yet, we've got 10 -- yes -- TEN
nieces and nephews to buy for!), it's the Wolvix Games Edition, and the
URL is http://wolvix.org/node/24. If you have access to a high-speed
Internet connection and a CD burner, you don't need to spend one red
cent for it, as it's FREE, just like most other Linux distributions! :-)

Just thought I'd pass this one along in case you're wondering what to
get your kids, nephews, or nieces, and looking for a FREE idea. Merry
Christmas, everyone!

Fred

PS -- you might want to write on the CD that in order to use it, you put
it into the CD drive and reboot, since, like I said, this is a live
distribution.
