Is there a business-accepted way to sign PDFs?

I'm going through some "official" paperwork which an agent has sent to
me as PDFs. I need to sign those PDFs and then send them back to the
agent. My current process is as follows:

1) save PDF to file
2) print file
3) sign pages
4) scan pages, turning them into PDFs.

The PDF documents I get are about 50 Kbytes in size. But the pages I
scan are several Mbytes in size.

Anyone know of a solution with the following features:

1) keeps the size down close to the original
2) avoids needlessly killing trees
3) is acceptable to legal and business people

Regards,
- Robert
