Hi, everyone.

I wanted to let you know about the classes I’m teaching at Wash U this fall semester. Some of them are in danger of being cancelled due to low enrollment. I’m asking you to consider them if you haven’t taken them, or to let others know about them who might be interested. If people don’t sign up before *August 18*, the classes will be cancelled.

# Social Media: Blogs, Wikis, and the Virtual Community

This is an online-only course about social media, although we do meet in person at least once (& I’m thinking twice might be a good idea). We cover blogs, micro-blogs like Twitter, Wikis, social networking (Facebook, Tinder, LinkedIn, & many more), sites & apps for sharing photos & other personal data, & the application of social media to law, politics, & society. It’s fun & as up-to-date as I can make it. Since it’s online, you work at your pace, without set class times. (This course is in danger of cancellation)

# Communications Technology & the Law in the Digital Age

This is a brand-new course co-taught with Denise Lieberman, a local attorney who’s been practicing 20 years. She’s a great instructor, & we make a great teaching team (we’ve taught many courses together over the years, & many of you have seen her speak at SLUUG). Our course will be divided into three broad areas: free speech, privacy and surveillance, and “intellectual property.” Some of the topics will include obscenity, libel, corporate surveillance, Snowden’s revelations and reactions to them, journalists and state secrets, the Public Domain, and copyright controversies and controls. We can’t wait to teach this course! (This course is in danger of cancellation)

# Web Site Design and Development

I’ve been teaching some variation of this course since 1997, & I’ve gotten better every year. You’ll learn HTML & CSS, the building blocks for building webpages & websites. I truly love teaching this stuff to people, & I look forward to seeing new students!

Again, if those sound interesting to you, please sign up for them ASAP (before August 18). The first two are in danger of being cancelled, so please do consider them. And I’d really appreciate it if you would let friends, co-workers, & others know about them.

Thank you so much!

Scott
