Yes, I know (roughly) about setuptools. Both setuptools and cx_Freeze build
on distutils, but they do quite different things:
- cx_Freeze extends distutils to allow freezing and distributing executable
programs which can run without Python installed on the system.
- setuptools adds features to the process of building and installing Python
packages, like dependency handling. It attempts to allow for different
versions of a single package being installed, but in practice that
functionality is not widely used, and makes other things more complicated.
