Thanks Mark, that will be very helpful. Unfortunately it only solves half
my problem. What I am doing is running a campaign system based on Star
Fleet Battles fro a bunch of my grade 6 students and I am acting as the GM.
I need a way to have a single map that I can work on but that I send back to
each of them with different amounts of “reveal” as they explore the map.
Obviously I don’t want everyone to see what each other is seeing, so I was
going to remedy the situation by having them plot their turns and me send
the back a screen capture of their new map (with only their reveals). The
hex numbering was so they can plot their movement on a spreadsheet (which
serves as the record form). Is there an easier way to do this that lets me
have the students use the “Play” end of the program?

In CB Designer go
Edit-Board Properties
In the Cells part is a number of numeration options.
Note, this does not insert the hex numbers on the map,
but the hex coordinate that the mouse arrow is in is
displayed in the bottom right hand corner of the
programme if you tick the "Track mouse movement over
cells" box
