Actually, it turned out the GSN/GAM was corrupted. 

I got another one from a ZIP file and worked with it, created a good GAM,
and am off to the races. Thanks for the suggestion, though, and for getting
back to me.

Believe it or not you may actually be low on memory. Vista takes a boat 
load of RAM just to run.

How big is the GBX file? How much RAM does your system have?
