Quick early report on a new CB use I'm aiming at: recording FtF games on CB on
a ultraportable running XP. I've gotten myself an MSI Wind, one of the highly
rated ultraportables, and CB looks great on it, with modules for HIS and TNW
already installed. The advantage these ultraportables have over even
'traditional' laptops is size/weight/cost (10x7x1 in./2.6 lb./$350 for the MSI)
-- it fits in the box for each of these games! I'll report that with 10"
screen, enough of the mapboard fits on this machine to make it completely
usable for CB play. Of course, anything CB I do at home I'll do on the system
with the 24" monitor. On my 24" I can use the full-scale map and see from
Borodino to Dublin East/West and from Goteborg to Rome North/South. On the
MSI's 10" I can see almost as much, but only under medium resolution; not as
good (you can't really read the leader's names on the counters on the map, but
can when they're highlighted), but plenty good enough
to quickly note down a complex board position, so you can pick up the game
when you're next ready to play.
I'd tried doing this earlier this year on an even smaller/cheaper ASUS machine
running Linux, but I couldn't get Wine to install on it, but I expect if I did,
CB would work fine, albeit with less map to see.
FYI for those needing to record games that needing picking up [Will Green, are
you listening? :-) ] ...
