Several cybercafs I observed before I opened did that, and based on the
multiple problems I observed I decided to go the opposite route. My machines
are only available online, and I deactivated the email clients to force
customers to email only using their own web based accounts. Obviously I've
had to help set up a lot of accounts, but that's fine: I earn goodwill that
way.
I have recently softened a bit and have restored the email clients, so a
customer can compose and send an email directly from his station without
entering Hotmail or wherever. I strongly discourage this option (I don't
even mention it), but it's available if a customer insists. I still don't
want to fool around with sorting and storing incoming mail, so it only works
for outgoing mail. Incoming mail to that account goes to the Great Mail
Filter In The Sky.
The only time I can imagine an offline emailing system working is if your ISP
is so unreliable as to make online web based systems impractical.
