Back when I was just a wee little lad, and I didn't
know what e-mail was, I started to read about it on
the internet which my college library provided (we
didn't have accounts). I ran across internet based
e-mail offerings. So I started to read the terms of
service for hotmail and yahoo mail. Has anyone here
ever read the hotmail contract? It's terrible! I'm not
too keen on their information security practices or
the involvment they have with marketers either. I
wasn't aware that they were connected with AOL till
just recently. I hadn't heard anything about the
problems with accessing hotmail till later. Because of
the TOS, I decided to go with Yahoo mail. They seem
rather secure and the agreement was much friendlier. I
have't had problems with them exept on very rare
occasions. I was glad to see thay yahoo increased the
mailbox size to 6 Meg. I expected a drop in
performence when they did, but I haven't noticed any
decline. They do require cookies, but I can set my
browser to "prompt to accept cookies" and then I
accept only temperary cookies and reject all
persistent cookies (those with an expiration date)
There are some re-directs in their process, but each
site is a yahoo mail page. The features are nice too.
Real e-mail it aint, but it does great for getting &
receiving my e-mail all over the globe.
PS: non-persistant cookies get purged when you close
the instance of the browser.
Now if I can only survive AOL dropping my connection
while my firewall is locked till my broadband comes
online. (free 30 days "did you think I was gonna pay a
red cent for for their pathetic crap?"
Any tips on makeing aol behave while I try to use a
normal REAL browser?
Best reguards,
Brian Frasier.
