1. Modems. I have tried these and no longer use them. I found them slow even with USR 56k modems. I found that all the ISPs I tried were downgrading the speed to below 56k (modems negotiate speed as part of the initial dialogue and an ISP can send a downgrade signal - to check see the modem log file). 2. 64k ISDN. Fine but get a good ISDN card (I use AVM Fritz as I have found some of the cheaper cards do not working all the time - Fritz card will run at 115k on a single 64k channel) 3. 128k ISDN with router. Fine so far, enables a small network of computers to be supported. 4. ADSL (the local version I am using is 64k computer to ISP, max 500k ISP to computer). Fine but I do not like the 64k element. 5. Permanent connection. Great for a number of computers. 6. Wireless. I have not tried this as it is not available here.
