The HK36 costs significantly less than the SA80 to produce. In
fact less than the repair programme will be for each SA80 to
be made acceptable.

Well, perhaps in quantity, my understanding was that 200,000
SA80s would be repaired for 80 million, which works out to
400 quid each.  If you're right about G36s costing L880
(which is a ripoff) then two SA80s can be repaired for the
price of one G36.

In the current issue of Visier they have SL8s (the
civilian version of the G36) advertised for about L830,
but that includes German VAT of 16%.  SL8s don't come with
optics so that might explain them being slightly cheaper,
but really, the gun is mostly made of plastic, H&K must be
making a killing.  I seem to remember even the op rod
is made of plastic.

I find it highly amusing that the police are using better
rifles than our own Army!
