The police, security services and military are getting
more circumspect in issuing details of people involved
in intelligence gathering, organised crime investigations
or armed intervention. I presume this is because it may
be possible to locate staff from these details and launch
revenge attacks or even to neutralise say an armed
response team by kidnapping or applying pressure to family
members.

Also it is very unusual even today for a police officer to
kill anyone - if no criminal charges are to be laid do they
need to be identified for people to point the finger at. It
seems at least one of the officers involved in this case was
suffering from severe trauma having shot someone dead, do we
really want to make it worse.

Well, no of course we don't, but there is a higher principle
here, that is of justice being transparent. And if we are
going to talk about trauma, what about the trauma of the
family, who have no idea who shot their son?

You can only look at this from a personal perspective.
If the police shot my son, would I make a revenge attack
against him? No. Would I want to know who shot him? Yes.

Steve.
