I think that you will find that it was probably a North Country "Pals" Battalion. Apologies if it was the Artists.. -- I didn't say it was the Artist's Rifles, I merely asked whether anyone had any info on how their name came to be associated with 21 SAS, as it sounds as thought it was in a similar vein to whatever this Sportsman's Battalion was.
