From: David Chappell - UK, [EMAIL PROTECTED] Martini-Henry's in 577/450 were never intended for smokeless loads, were not proofed for smokeless loads, and any insurance that you may have (either personaly or as a member of a club) may well be invalidated by using them. - You may also violate range rules. Your Martini-Henry comes from an earlier age, when metalurgy was not as advanced as it is now, the 577/450 case is large, leading to problems with reliable ignition, and possible double or even triple charging whilst using smokeless powders. Is it a waste of the time and effort that all the contributors put into this forum if posters STILL believe that black powder is corrosive? - It is no harder to clean a rifle used with BP loads. You could do far more damage with one smokeless round (to your rifle, yourself and even other range users) than you would with black powder. If you refuse to treat your antique firearm with the respect it deserves, then I suggest that you sell it and buy a modern large calibre single shot rifle. If however, you do want to shoot it, then there are very many reliable sources of loading information available for black powder cartridge loading. David.
