Sorry to hear that you're not going on the rally. I'm not keen
on fox hunting either - but having been invited to help erradicate
all the foxes on a 150 acre estate if hunting is banned, I would
rather support the right to hunt as they only catch 2-3 foxes a
year. Those who feel that banning fox hunting (you?) will save
foxes are sadly deluding themselves.

We have seen that after banning handguns (in the interests of
public safety) the number of deaths caused by handguns has
increased! We have also seen an increased level of paranoia in
the police leading to them shooting people if they only think
might be carrying a gun and therefore pose a potential risk to
themselves.

So if after the ban, a farmer notices fox damage to his livestock,
rather than call out the hunt who will probably not be able to
catch the fox (according to a gamekeeper I know) he will call out
his friends with wholly innaproriate firearms and any fox in the
area will become target practice. Have you ever seen a small
mamal with it's jaw shot half off by a .22rf or bleeding to death
by being peppered by No. 6 shot? Not pretty I assure you - and no
I will not be joining in. At least if its chased by the hunt it
will either get away (a bit worried admitedly) or it will be
killed QUICKLEY albeit bloodily. However unpleasant you might
feel fox hunting is - it is probably the least bad alternative.

I will also be there to support the right of minorities to be
different and have differing views to our own. We all think we
know what it is like to be a perscuted minority, but just try
being from an ethnic, racial or even social minority in a
bigoted country.

We must all do what we think best, but we cannot complain if we
do not have other peoples support when they don't agree with
our point of view. You simply cannot have it both ways.

I have my own point of view, and it's not that foxes will be
shot cruelly or humanely, I think they will simply become
extinct because without the income from fox hunting there will
be no incentive to maintain their habitats. All their burroughs
will simply be ploughed under.

Steve.
