NRA-ILA FAX ALERT

Vol. 8, No. 3 1/19/01

ANOTHER BUSH CABINET NOMINEE FACES ATTACK BY GORE SUPPORTERS

Last week, we told you about the attacks by gun-ban extremists on
President-elect George W. Bush's nominee for Attorney General, former U.S.
Senator John Ashcroft (R-Mo.). Now, Gale Norton, Bush's nominee for
Secretary of the Interior, faces similar attacks. Throughout her career
that includes two terms as Colorado's Attorney General, Norton has
supported the interests of hunters and law-abiding firearm owners, and now
is the time to come to her aid. She is under heavy fire by radical
"environmentalist" groups—which have launched a series of attack ads in
major media centers and in states where they feel senators are undecided
on Norton—as well as other groups not known for being involved with
environmental issues, such as the NAACP and the AFL-CIO. What does unite
these groups is that most of them did everything they could last year to
defeat President-elect Bush on November 7. Many look at the campaign to
oppose Gale Norton's confirmation by the U.S. Senate as nothing more than
another attack on Bush by supporters of Al Gore. Norton's nomination
hearing before the Senate began Thursday, and a vote by the Senate will
come in the near future.
It is critical that you call, write, fax, and e-mail your U.S. Senators
today, both in their D.C., and closest local offices, and urge them to
support and vote for confirmation of Gale Norton as Secretary of the
Interior. You can find contact information for your U.S. Senators by using
the "Write Your Reps" tool at www.NRAILA.org, or by calling the NRA-ILA
Grassroots Division at 800-392-8683.

In addition, please keep up the pressure on your U.S. Senators and urge
them to support and vote for confirmation of John Ashcroft as U.S.
Attorney General.

ANOTHER ANTI-HUNTING "SAAB"-STORY

In 1999, we reported that Saab Cars USA had entered into a relationship
with the largest anti-hunting extremist organization in America—the Humane
Society of the United States (HSUS). Two years ago, Saab was promoting an
HSUS anti-fur campaign, and the latest issue of Saab Magazine indicates
the relationship is still strong, as it includes an ad promoting HSUS. But
does Saab also support anti-gun extremism? In the same issue of the
magazine is a story about Carl Frederick Reuterswärd, the Swedish artist
who designed Saab's new symbol. Reuterswärd is probably best known for his
sculpture of a revolver with its barrel tied into a knot (a photo of the
artist with this sculpture is included in the magazine), a sculpture that
is displayed in front of the UN headquarters. If you wish to contact Saab
to express your objection to its working with anti-hunting extremists
(especially if you are a hunter who owns a Saab), please write:
