Detectives have issued a fresh warning to anyone connected with the animal
trade after two nail bombs were sent through the post.

The devices were mailed to an agricultural firm on the outskirts of
Sheffield and a charitable organisation in Lytham St Annes, Lancashire.

Army bomb disposal experts have been called in to deal with the packages.

The incidents are being linked to a series of similar attacks on companies
connected with the animal trade, which have left three people injured.

It is believed animal rights extremists may be to blame.

Detective Superintendent Ian Jones of Lancashire police is urging people and
organisations to treat their mail with caution.

In one incident earlier this month, a female member of staff at an estate
agents in Patrington, East Yorkshire, suffered serious eye injuries after
opening a letter containing a device. The estate agents was said to deal
with livestock auctions.

In a separate attack in January, a 58-year-old farmer in Ripon, North
Yorkshire, suffered facial injuries after he opened a small package
containing nails.

And on New Year's Eve, a letter bomb was sent to the owner of a pest control
business in Congleton, Cheshire. The package was opened by the owner's
six-year-old daughter who suffered leg wounds.

Packages have also been sent to a pet supplier on the outskirts of Newcastle
upon Tyne, a north Wales fish and chip shop, a Coventry pet shop and a
company connected with the agricultural business in Masham, North Yorkshire.
