Steve,
I am not sure if this one is a spoof, as I do not buy the "SUN",
and havn't done since the Falklands. However, if its not, the humour
aside, and I must admit it did make me laugh. It isn't funny for the
poor sod involved, cos I have been on the receiving end of something
similar.
A few years ago, pre 1982, I was involved in an interservices comp
down at "Trevol" in Cornwall. The incident occurred during a"Whitehead"
using the ubiquitous Browning 9mm. The character involved was me.
We were told to line out and subsequently load and make ready. I put the
loaded mag in and racked the slide. Obviously pointing down the
range as one does. The bloody thing fired as the slide finished placing a
9mm in the chamber. No!! My finger wasn't on the trigger, it was where it
should have been and clear. Never the less I was given my marching
orders from the Comp, and subsequently had to put my reasons in writing
to the Flag Officer Plymouth. That was despite having a reliable witness who
vouched that I had followed the procedures to the letter. The Army doesn't
make allowances for anything of that nature, what ever the cause. Cause!!
a mulfunctioning Browning whose trigger was found to be a bit light, even
though within Spec. I was informed much later that the Brownings had a
tendency to do that, by an Armourer.
So though I do not know anything about Glocks, having never owned or
fired one, I have heard all sorts of comments even on this medium. My point
is, I really sympathise with this chap. Luckily the only injury sustained is
likely
to be brown trousers by his compatriots, but don't rule out the kit. It also
happens! Isn't that why many Coppers preferred the revolver in the past?
Do our Coppers get a choice of handguns? or is it take it or else!!

I saw a SIG-Sauer P225 go off once when it was decocked. We could never
figure out how it happened because the gun appeared to be in perfect
mechanical condition. We couldn't get it to do it again.

Steve.
