So, I rode my second time trial yesterday, and I recorded dramatic
improvements. The improvements were so drastic that I wonder if I did
something wrong. Or, is there an explanation I am missing.
FACTS
I rode the same 2 1/2 mile course for both TTs. I know that 3 miles
is the ideal, but, for some reason that I can't remember, I had to do
2.5. The only changes: new carbon sole shoes, and a new wheel set.
Here are the results
MARCH 29, 2010
Miles Time Avg HR Max HR Avg MPH
Wind
2.5 9.09 177
186 16.45 N 7 MPH
MAY 13, 2010
Miles Time Avg HR Max HR Avg MPH
Wind
2.5 7.12.9 180 192
20.62 NE 7 MPH
I crushed yesterdays TT compared to the March TT. I rode almost 2
minutes faster, and over 4 MPH faster. My Avg HR increased 3 BPM and
my max HR increased the same. Would the new shoes, wheel set and
increased HR account for such a massive gain?

Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act
rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those
because we have acted rightly.
We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a
habit. Will Durant, The Story of Philosophy
